It was the site of   origin of  culture preinca Cajamarca-whose testimony is the famous stop of    Otuzco-and in times of the Inca Empire was a great center administrative  and   resting place of the sovereign. In 1532 it was decided the fate  of the empire, Atahualpa, the Inca when visiting hot spring known today  as baths of the   Inca. In the Inca Cajamarca was captured and  eventually executed by the conquistadors.</p>
<p>In addition to the nearby spa Baths of the Inca,  whose   waters have wide variety of minerals with healing qualities, the  city offers   a variety of archaeological monuments as The Fourth of  Rescue, where he was   Atahualpa prisoner; beautiful colonial  architecture, represented at the   cathedral and the church of San  Francisco, and a rich folklore. Cajamarca is considered the capital of  Peru for its colorful carnival comparsas and dance   groups during the  holidays, which take place between February and March.</p>

<p>Studies   indicate that the first buildings were made 700                        AD years, starting as the   seat of culture Lambayeque and after becoming a                        Important centre which   increased its regional power under the occupation of cultures                        Chimu (1375   -1470 AD) and Inca (1470 &#8211; 1532 AD), successively.</p>
<p>The structures date back   to different periods  and used to denote different roles political,   administrative, social,  religious and craft. They temples, warehouses, courtyards, rooms and  halls with walls decorated with reliefs.</p>

<p>He was recognized by UNESCO as a nucleus of   the  Biosphere Reserve in 1977 and, as                      World Heritage Site in 1985. Very   visited the  glacier Pastoruri (70 km south of Huaraz), the lagoon Llanganuco   (at  the foot of Huascaran) and the thermal baths of                      Monterey (5 km north of   Huaraz).</p>
<p>The Alley Conchucos, southeast of the city of  Huaraz, is the   Archeological site of Chavin de Huantar (3810 m) which  consists of temples,   galleries, stonework and squares. This place was  the most important center ceremonial former Chavin culture and an  underground gallery is the Sandeel, monolith of 4.53 m tall, which  impresses with its fierce mythical image.</p>
<p>The Cordillera Huayhuash is located at the southern tip of the Cordillera   Blanca, on the border with the<br />
Huanuco region. There is the gap Conococha,   point  of origin of the river and Santa                      Peak Yerupajá (6634 meters), the   second highest in  the nation, and the most difficult access. The most   important town in  the area is Chiquián (3200 meters), where the route begins trekking  most important (8 days).</p>
